Arbcore Tree Surgeons covering Machynlleth
Machynlleth sits on the River Dyfi at the edge of the Dyfi Biosphere - Wales's first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - with the Cambrian Mountains rising behind the town. Arbcore has worked this valley for over 20 years, covering the town itself and the surrounding villages of Corris, Pennal, Derwenlas and Cemmaes, for homes, businesses and local authorities.
Riverside trees and a sensitive landscape
A lot of the tree work we do around Machynlleth is on or near the Dyfi floodplain, where root systems sit in waterlogged ground for parts of the year and riverside trees are under more pressure from erosion and periodic flooding than trees further from the water. That changes how we assess stability and plan rigging and access - it's a different job to a dry inland garden.
Being on the edge of a Biosphere Reserve, much of the land around the town also carries a higher-than-usual level of habitat sensitivity - this is Dyfi Osprey and Cors Dyfi country, and wildlife and habitat considerations come up on a real proportion of the jobs we quote here, not just as a checkbox. We factor in nesting season timing, watercourse protection and any Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) or European Protected Species constraints before work starts, alongside the usual Tree Preservation Order and conservation area checks for the town centre itself, which is a historic market town with its own listed buildings around the clock tower.
Our Tree Services
Arbcore are tree surgeons who provide the best tree care for homes and businesses in Machynlleth.
Our services include:
Felling or section felling - We remove a tree in one go or in sections, depending on the number of obstacles that may be present, through our system of ropes and pulleys.
Crown thinning - We can remove up to a quarter of dead and damaged limbs so that your tree health is improved.
Pollarding - We only use this method of extreme pruning when a tree could cause damage to overhead electricity cables or other hazardous obstacles.
Crown reduction - This involves removing the outer branches of a tree so that more sunlight can get to the ground below.
Crown raising - We remove some of the lower branches if there are obstacles beneath the tree, which also allows more sunlight to pass through.
Landscaping - From fencing, excavations and decking, to paving, ponds and raised vegetable beds, our landscaping services are second to none.
Garden maintenance - Pressure-washing, planting, cutting lawns and trimming hedges are among our services that we carry out as frequently as you’d like us to.
Forestry services - We provide riparian regeneration, control invasive weeds, clear regeneration sites, bridleways and paths.
Our Process
To begin, we carry out a site visit so that we can see you and have a look at the trees that need felling or the work that needs doing. Once we verbally agree to a project, we send you written confirmation via a quote that is emailed or posted to you. If we all agree, we attend the site and introduce you to the team who carry out the work. It’s important to then sign off the legal paperwork, which includes carrying out risk assessments, and checking legislation such as tree preservation and wildlife protection. If all is good on that front, work can begin. When we finish, we clean the site of any debris and make sure you’re happy with what’s been done before we pack up and leave. Landscaping projects will include detailed drawings and plans that you can see at any time during the project.
